After Tran attended one of the pick up artist Mystery's bootcamps, he began to develop his own methods of attraction, concentrating on developing his own holistic approach to the art of seduction.[5] Through his personal blog in which he talked about his adventures in the dating game, his successes and failures, he received a telephone call from a woman whose son had been harassed and bullied at his high school by neo-Nazis.[6] She had been reading The Asian Playboy's blogs and believed that he could help her son overcome his shyness and help him to be assertive enough to get through the bullying. She paid for Tran to fly out to her home in Canada and he spent three days helping her son improve his confidence and social skills. This chance decision of flying out to Canada was the initial spark for Tran's career, and the starting point of his company, ABCs of Attraction, which he launched in 2005.
Tran introduced the concept of the ABCDEF structure which incorporates three main components, namely: thoughts, actions, and words. The concept teaches men how to develop their attitudes, change the manner of their dress, and convey sexuality while courting and dating women.[7] The Asian Playboy mainly teaches shy Asian men confidence and communication skills.[8]
Tran appears at a wide range of events and seminars, offering bootcamps which last from three days to several weeks.[9] Each boot camps is designed to help men improve their social interaction skills. The Asian Playboy works along several instructors and coaches including Johnny Wolf,[10] Sarah Ann the Wing-Girl,[11] Ozzie AKA The Latino Gentleman [12] and William AKA Man Cannon.[13] Andrew AKA Showtime left the team in early 2011.
Tran and his company have hit the front pages of AsianWeek[14] and Nguoi Viet Daily News,[7] as well as other newspapers such as The Harvard Crimson where he was the featured guest speaker at the Harvard University event "Between the (Pickup) Lines",[15] D Magazine, Hyphen Magazine[6] and a featured interview with Yale Daily News.[16]
In May 2011, he was featured in New York (magazine) in an article about Asian-Americans who were able to fight the "bamboo ceiling".[17][18]
Tran spoke at Yale for Master's Tea (other notable personalities who were similarly honored to speak for Master's Tea include actor Denzel Washington) and was featured in The Yale Herald.[19] He has also been a featured guest speaker for the University of Chicago.[20]
The Asian Playboy is also a featured dating advice columnist for major publications like LA Weekly (weekly columns) [21] and Baller Magazine (a poker lifestyle magazine).[2] Tran has appeared on several TV stations such as Saigon Broadcasting Television Network,[22] Channel 5 ABC[23] and Chicago Philippine Report TV ("CPR TV").[24] Tran also paired up with fellow female pickup artist, Kezia Noble for a PUA all-star workshop.[25]
